Effective Alimony Representation
Helping you make informed, intelligent decisions during difficult times
At the Law Office of Douglas P. Earl, P.C., we help clients resolve disputes over financial assistance that take place during divorce. These can be very complex issues, tied closely to other matters, such as property division. We have the experience to sort them out and get results that make sense.
The Many Forms of Alimony
Alimony, also referred to as spousal support or spousal maintenance, can be a temporary arrangement, benefiting one spouse for a limited amount of time during the divorce process, or for a defined period after the divorce is finalized. This is common, because alimony is considered a rehabilitative solution, used only until the spouse becomes self-supporting.
However, depending on the length of the marriage and other factors, courts will sometimes provide for permanent alimony.
Balancing Alimony and Other Issues
A divorce is not a series of distinct issues that are resolved in a vacuum. Instead, everything overlaps.
Frequently, the issue of alimony overlaps with the issue of property division. For example, one spouse may agree to pay the other alimony in order to obtain exclusive title to a certain piece of property. We know how to balance all of these issues to pursue an outcome that will work for you.
